The idea for this application came into my head when I wanted to exercise, but no one was available.This is not a problem with Sportbuddy, because you can meet new people while being active.
A study shows that more than 50% of the children aren’t active enough. Since the beginning of the lockdown, it appears that 55% of children are exercising or moving less. Among other things, 75% of exercisers miss one of the main reasons for playing sports, namely social contact. To solve this problem, there is of course a solution. A sportbuddy can help to motivate and persevere at times when a (novice) sportsman is struggling or wants to give up.
I started with coming up with a name. After I considered a few names, ‘Sportbuddy’ was the most straightforward and clear name.
The problem with most of these applications, in fact, is their use behaviour. Many people will no longer use the application after they have found a sportbuddy, with the result that they will uninstall the application. People should continue to use the application. To counteract this, the application consists of much more than just a possibility to find a sportbuddy.
The main function is of course to find a sportbuddy, but in addition you can watch and attend all kinds of sports events and you can find all kinds of sports news.
Branding is usually decisive for whether a brand is going to make it or not. The logo is a very important element in this, it is one of the first things people see or remember when they come into contact with a brand. Therefore I wanted my logo to be recognizable yet innovative.
The logo consists of several elements. First, the letter S for Sportbuddy. The two circles refer to bringing people together. The sign of the pin point represents meeting. The letter S is made of several lines, resembling an athletic track, thus referring to the sports aspect. Finally, the reversed sign of the pin point also symbolizes sweat drop, which also refers to sports.
To make Sportbuddy bigger and to become better known, marketing is done. We are betting on different social media channels, such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. The most important channel is Instagram, where there will also be contests.
The user interface is the stage where all the ideas come to life. Because I had created a design system, it was very easy to design the application. A design system is the basis for the whole interface and branding of an application or website. It's not just about design, but this can also help how developers and designers should work together. It makes everything a lot clearer and easier. Using the wireframes I created earlier, I was finally able to shape it into a real prototype.
